At the 28th of February 2018 the conference titled “The modern VET education – the bridge between a student and market” was organized in Gdansk, Pomeranian Region (Poland). The organizers were: Gdansk University of Technology, Phisical Education Academi in Gdansk, company Energa SA and Pomeranian Office of Education.
At this event the letter of cooperation in the field of VET promotion between company Energa SA and Pomeranian Office of Education was signed and presented. The conference was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Education.
The conference “Modern vocational education – the bridge between a student and market” is a unique medium of information transfer. It is particularly important in the case of new educational ventures that need to be presented. The conference is a way to interact with people from different professional areas and give them the opportunity to present their experiences and opinions. Certainly, it will create a forum for gathering professional knowledge and the possibility of contact between the school and business areas. The international conference can contribute to the development of a transnational debate, both in the school environment and business in the area of necessary competences and skills of young people who make professional and personal decisions at the school level.
The aim of the conference was to effectively integrate business with the school environment by presenting good practices, shaping independence in young people in gaining information and using it in the future when planning a school and vocational career. The speakers also pointed out how important it is to use external institutions and to cooperate at the local or regional level.
During the conference, participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the subject: “Vocational education in Poland” (today and in the future), presented by Mrs. Bożena Mayer – Gawron, deputy director of the Center for Education Development in Warsaw.
The other key speakers:
Mr. Loukas Zahilas (Cedefop, Head of Department for VET Systems and Institutions) presented the perspective of training and acquiring professional qualifications at the level of EU.
Mr Raja Ali (President of IBD Partnership, United Kingdom) discussed issues related to effective career guidance and the development of transnational cooperation in the organization of international student internships.
Dr. Edward Wąsiewicz (Honorary Consul of Austria in Wrocław) presented the system of vocational education in Austria and some solutions for supporting young people in gaining a profession and finding themselves in the labor market.
The conference ended with a panel discussion: “Does a Polish school provide young people with professional development? Opportunities and barriers. ”
The moderator was Liwia Maćków, a member of the Council of Children and Youth of the Republic of Poland at the Ministry of National Education. The panelists who presented their opinions and shared their knowledge and experience with the participants of this meeting were:

Pomeranian Office of Education will continue some activities in the area of promotion VET education. There is a plan to organize some meetings between school and employers in order to develop common projects/ events and effectively engage the business into school programs.
