About This Project
Five French students spent four weeks in Limerick, Ireland, from 20 November to 16 December 2025, on a work placement organised by The RALF Partnership. The weeks were split between workplace placements during the day and evenings and weekends with local host families, with a tutor travelling alongside the group and a local coordinator providing welfare support throughout.
What the Students Did
Each student was placed with a Limerick employer from the first working day, with supervised tasks and real responsibilities rather than observation-only roles. Alban worked in a warehouse, picking and packing orders and checking stock, which built his accuracy, pace and awareness of safety in a busy working environment. Ewen joined a small flower business, where preparing products, serving customers and packing orders gave him a close look at how an independent shop runs day to day.
Loan and Jason both worked in retail, at different branches of the same home and leisure store. Stocking shelves, working the till and helping customers meant spoken English from the first hour, and both developed their customer service skills and their confidence in speaking under pressure. Tilio spent his placement at a museum, welcoming visitors and supporting displays and events, which gave him direct experience of public-facing communication in a professional setting.
The host family element was central to the programme in a way hotel accommodation cannot replicate. Evenings and weekends gave all five students a genuine window into Irish home life, local culture and the informal English that never comes from a classroom. A welcome city tour, weekly check-ins and trips to the Cliffs of Moher and Galway rounded out the stay.
By the final meeting, where the group received their certificates, all five had grown professionally and personally in ways that are hard to reproduce in any other setting. That is what a well-run Erasmus+ work placement is meant to produce.
