About This Project

In July 2023, thirteen German students travelled to Cork for a month-long work placement organised by IBD Partnership Group. The programme paired each student with a local employer suited to their field, arranged host family accommodation for the full stay, and provided tutors on the ground throughout, from arrival and orientation through weekly check-ins to a certificate ceremony marking the end of the placement.

What the Students Did

The group’s placements spanned motor trades, hospitality, education, finance and engineering, with no two students placed in the same sector. Max and Henry worked at a motor repair shop, focusing on diagnostic work and workshop safety, while Merle gained experience in car sales at a nearby dealership. Gian Luca and Paul were placed at a print and design business, and Laura took on teaching assistance at an English language school. Aileen worked at a dog care service, and Anna Maria and Lavina had customer-facing roles at the Kingsley Hotel, alongside Timo in the hotel’s health club.

Anastasiia gained administrative experience at a local college, Tom worked to precise tolerances at a precision engineering firm, and Jakob completed his placement at an accountancy practice. Each student stayed with a host family for the duration of the programme. By the final week, most reported feeling considerably more confident working in English than they had at the start.
